Nutrients to Help Support You Pre & Post Surgery
Surgery can be a daunting experience. Especially for those with celiac and non celiac gluten sensitivity (NCGS). Years of gluten induced malnutrition can set the stage for a failed surgery caused by vitamin and mineral deficiencies, and the inability to heal and recover. In addition, there are many fears that can arise from the unknown, possible surgical complications, and failed surgical outcomes. All that being said, surgery can also be a very positive experience if you take the right nutritional and lifestyle precautions
When asked about preparation for surgery, I have a select list of nutrients that I recommend people take both before and after surgery. Today, I am going to share those with you. You might also find the in depth video below helpful in preparing for your surgery.
Pre-Surgery Nutritional Support
Your body is about to experience some scheduled trauma, so you want to help it prepare by introducing some very helpful nutrients.
Here are my 4 nutritional recommendations for pre surgery. Take them every day, for 1-2 weeks or more before the surgical procedure. Many doctors tell patients to discontinue all supplements before a surgery to reduce the possibility of over thinning the blood. These supplements do not cause thinning of the blood, and are safe to take. If you still have concerns, it is always best to speak with your doctor.
1. Take 5 Grams of Detox C Powder or 5 Detox C Tabsules
2. Take 4 Capsules of L-Glutamine
3. Take 2 Capsules of Ultra Zinc
4. Take 6 Tabsules of Multi-Nutrients
Post-Surgery Nutritional Support
Your body has just gone through some scheduled trauma. Supporting yourself nutritionally can have a great benefit in helping support and expedite the recovery process.
Additionally, many doctors will prescribe you an array of medications post surgically to help with pain, swelling, and inflammation. These medicines can contribute to nutritional deficiencies and other nutritional complications that may interfere with your healing process. The following supplements are recommended to support you through the post surgical healing process.
Always talk with your doctor about adding supplements. The following list is recommended for 12 weeks after surgery. All should be taken in divided doses with food unless otherwise stated. All should be taken away from any prescription medications your are taking.
1. Take 5 Grams of Detox C Powder or 5 Detox C Tabsules
2. Take 4 Capsules of L-Glutamine
3. Take 2 Capsules of Ultra Zinc
4. Take 6 Tabsules of Multi-Nutrients
5. Take 4 Tabs of Ultra Q
6. Take 3 Capsules of Omega Max
7. Take 1 Packet of Ultra Biotic DefenseÂ
8. Take 6 Capsules of BCAA
9. Take 8 Capsules of Matrizyme
Conclusion
I hope that you find this information helpful. Of course, feel free to use your preferred supplements if you are certain they are free of all gluten (including rice and corn). Otherwise, all of these grain free formulas can be found right here on Gluten Free Society.
Please note that these supplements are in no way intended to treat your illness, and I would highly encourage you to partner with you immediate doctor to confirm that these recommendations are suitable for you.

Thank you, Dr. Osborne. Perfect timing! I ordered what I knew to order for preop. I am ordering the rest you suggested. My teeth were very damaged. I have no other options. I am a few weeks out from the procedure. I wanted to load my body with nutrients before moving forward. The TMC wanted me to let the maxio-facial surgeons do the work. They do not accept my dental insurance. Thank goodness, I have $5K to help cover part of the expense. I so dread this. The damage is only to the outside of my teeth. No cavities or erosion inside at all. Tells the story right there vs my dental records before. Please remember me in prayer. Everything is coming together. I thank you for your kindness. I was headed toward a downhill slide. Haven’t seen him for 5 years now face to face. He was seen here in Huntsville last year and he knows I saw him. He left California. I verified this through his roommate. God is great!! So sorry to hear about your little Yorkie. I remember you posting her picture one day. Glad you discovered the mold and moved to a safe place.
Best wishes to you and your family. Like minds and like hearts.
Doing my best and staying strong through this time.
Kindest regards,
Pamela Demarest
I followed the pre and post surgery protocol. My surgeon was very happy with my recovery and said I was healing better than most. So thank you for the information. I know it helped me be prepared before and definitely helped my recovery. I had back surgery for spinal stenosis and also two bolts or screws to stabilize my back. The surgeon encouraged my program of nutrition.
