if you’re not familiar with what an NSAID is, it’s medicines like ibuprofen.
Naproxen is an NSAID and indomethacin is an NSAID. So again, it’s a drug class that blocks an inflammation and it blocks the fever from occurring. And so again, what they were seeing or what they were speculating is because this class of medications actually increases the quantity of a type of special receptor on the cell. That receptor is called an ACE 2 receptor. ACE stands for angiotensin converting enzyme. The ACE two receptor sits on the surface of the cell.

So because these medications increase the quantity of this type of receptor, it was speculated that it made more of these receptors available for the virus to penetrate into your cell and hijack your cell creating increased replication for itself and more symptomatic problems in a more aggressive case of the virus. This was all based on preliminary observation.

initially they were saying don’t use these drugs to reduce the fever because it could enhance the way the virus gets into your cell. And now they’re saying that you can reduce the fever because they’re not so much worried about this. So why are they not so much worried about this?
