IBS symptoms include abdominal pain, discomfort, and changes in bowel habits. There are two types of IBS which result in two different sets of bowel challenges:
IBS-C: IBS-C is also known as IBS with constipation. IBS with constipation is generally defined as having stools that are at least 25 percent hard or lumpy, but also less than 25 percent loose in consistency. Those suffering with IBS-C experience fewer bowel movements overall, and sometimes experience strain or discomfort when passing them. IBS-C can also cause abdominal pain, gas, and bloating.
IBS-D: IBS-D is also known as IBS with diarrhea. Many define IBS-D as more than a quarter of stools being loose. Those suffering with IBS-D also often experience abdominal pain, urgency to have a bowel movement, and excessive gas.
