Grass Fed vs. Grain Fed
Americans eat primarily two types of beef, ordinary grain-fed beef and 100% grass-fed beef. What you’ve been eating for most of your life is likely grain-fed beef.
Grain-fed beef comes from cattle that have been fed a diet of grain, soy and sometimes even animal by-products. The cattle are pumped with hormones to expedite the growth process and hooked up to antibiotics to prevent the spread of disease in crowded feedlots.
100% grass-fed beef comes from cattle that are only fed grass their entire lives. They enjoy free range on pasture and are never put into feed lots. They live longer lives because their growth isn’t accelerated by the administration of artificial hormones. As a result you get amuch cleaner piece of beef, just as nature intended.
80% of the beef produced in the U.S. comes from just 4 companies! And only 1- 3% of the beef in the U.S. is 100% grass-fed.
A 2015 Consumer Reports study found that 100% grass-fed beef is the safest and most humane beef Americans can consume.
