I'm very interested to hear how he does keeping him on this diet. Grain is in all processed food, and it's also corn and rice. Also dairy contains gluten, and grain fed animals/fish also contain gluten. The effectiveness of this diet can be determined only if it's 100 percent free, meaning only grass fed meats, fruits, vegetables, and nuts included. My opinion is that giving up on the diet could be the worst decision you ever make, but if it continues to not make a difference after two weeks, then I would be suprised, but would recommend continueing for 3 months. From reading personal health stories, it would be unusual for a grain free diet to have no results. Stay with it and please post the results!
