Happy Gluten Free Halloween!

Halloween is upon us and candy will most likely contribute to a boat load of illness tonight. From immune suppression to autoimmune disease, processed sugar is a major killer in the U.S. Please be cautious tonight and use good nutritional judgement. This past week I saw a 12 year old girl with gluten sensitivity and diabetes, a 30 year old and a 28 year old diabetic with previously undiagnosed sugar allergy and gluten sensitivity. What’s my point? Diabetes and gluten sensitivity go hand in hand. As doctors, we are seeing both more frequently and in younger and younger people. Grain causes weight gain, insulin resistance, and chronic disease very similar to that of regular processed sugar consumption. The following diseases can be easily traced to excessive grain and sugar consumption: There is a misconception in this country that people can get away with eating bad when they are young. I heard a parent the other day say “Let him have his candy, he will run it off.” The poor kid was already overweight. I felt sorry for him, and gave the gentleman a good talking to about his lackadaisical attitude about proper nutrition. Bottom line is simple, the majority of adults in this country are overweight and sick. The majority of children are too. What are you going to do? The time for action is here. Don’t sit by idly and let the gift of good health be destroyed. Take action, get educated, become not only a Gluten Free Warrior, become a Warrior for Good Health. All the best, Dr. O – The Gluten Free Warrior
