High quality animal protein for your family is very hard to find in common neighborhood health food stores. Nearly 100% of the beef sold in health food stores is not “real” beef. It may be organic—the cattle are fed organic grains.  But it is a well known fact that cattle are not designed to eat grains!

And if that isn’t bad enough, grain fed beef can contain over 50% of the far less healthy saturated fat. In contrast grass fed beef has an omega 6:3 ratio of 0.16 to 1.

Science suggests this ratio to be ideal for our diet. This is nearly the same ratio that fish has.  Grass fed beef usually has less than 10% of its fat as saturated. As soon as you feed cattle grain they start loosing their natural ability to produce CLA. Animals that graze on pasture have from 300 to 400% more CLA than animals fattened on grain in a feedlot.

We all know, diet and exercise are required to lose weight. However, University of Wisconsin research, completed this year but not yet published, showed that CLA intake will assist individuals who lose weight in preventing putting weight back on. The human intestine produces CLA naturally from linoleic acid. Recent studies have been conducted on attaining a higher CLA content in daily food intake because of possible health benefits such as weight loss.

  • Mad Cow Disease (MCD) killed nearly 100 people in Europe. Experts believe it’s related to how animals are raised, what they eat and exposure to pesticides. MCD has not been officially reported in the US, but a similar disease, Scrapie, has been reported in sheep in the US. MCD is notoriously difficult to test for. It may take over 30 years for MDC to incubate! The conservative Consumer Reports is concerned and believes it’s possible that MCD may spread to the US.
  • Foot and Mouth Disease is a dreaded disease in Europe. Numerous cattle have been destroyed as a result of this problem. Foot and Mouth Disease are far less probable to occur in grass fed cattle.
  • A dangerous E. coli infection significantly decrees with grass fed cattle. Grain feeding promotes the growth of E.coli and it’s more likely to pass through the stomach and infect the colon.
  • Feeding dead cats and dogs to cattle was legal in the US until 1997. The government banned the practice because of fears over MCD. Dead horses and pigs, however, are still occasionally ground into cattle feed.
  • One quarter of America’s minced beef is made from worn-out dairy cattle, likely to be riddled with disease and the meat containing antibiotic residues.
  • The USDA imposed new rules last year reclassifying as “safe for human consumption” animal carcasses with cancer, tumors and open sores. Do you really want to eat beef like this?
